Hairstylists and makeup artists buzzed around backstage before Rebecca Taylor's New York Fashion Week show, rushing to get the models runway-ready.
The ironic part? The goal of the high-end operation, with Cutler Redpin Salons on hair duty and MAC providing the makeup, was to make the girls look "natural and low maintenance."
"The look is '90s grunge-inspired," said hairstylist Emma Heser, surrounded by models with slicked-back, loose-ended hair made to look "half wet, half dry and beachy."
The goal was the same in makeup, where they used brown mascara (Lofty Brown Zoom Lash by MAC, to be exact) and Tendertone MAC lip balm in Hot 'N' Saucy, which, though bright red, is sheer enough for a subtle, moist look.
Eye shadow was done in shades of blue, green and citron and was applied in a "painterly" fashion to allow skin to show through, said senior makeup artist Chantel Miller. "It's modern and effortlessly beautiful."
