Pow! Wam! Zap! Such was the impact of the energetic first look at Nicole Miller as a model wearing zany, bold race flag-patterned leggings and a long, lambskin, bomber jacket, sped down the runway. And speed, according to Miller’s program notes, was what it was all about…”the speed of wheels in motion. The momentum of a skateboard shredding through the air.”
But to go fast forward, Miller reached back into her archives, revisiting the Eighties and actually dating certain looks – a silk print jumpsuit (’85), a patchwork blouse (’80), and athletic mesh pleated dress (’88).
Although the blasts of color and patterns throughout the peppy show were, at some points dizzying, the collection had the feel of youthful exuberance. And, there was much to wear: great jackets, slouchy sweaters, translucent slickers and life-of-the-party prints for, um, girls who just want to have fun (’83).
