Sneaker collaborations are usually linked to the worlds of basketball, skateboarding and, of course, hip-hop. Hockey? Not so much . . . but with the New York Islanders looking as good as they do this season on the way to the playoffs, sneaker guru Jason Faustino thought it was time to show the Isles some collaborative love.
His style slap shot is the new Extra Butter x NY Islanders x Reebok Ventilator Supreme, a collab Islanders fans oughta love. That’s because Faustino, co-owner of the sneakerhead mecca Extra Butter in Rockville Centre, is a die-hard fan himself. “My parents took my sister and me since we were little to see the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum — it was a real family thing for us,” he recalls, adding he’s made peace with the move to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. “As long as they don’t leave New York.”
Faustino and the EB gang are known for inventive collabs with critical attention to detail. These shoes feature the team colors, logo, the years of their four consecutive Stanley Cup wins embroidered on the heel, a secret “740” label inside the tongue (a nod to the total wins of legendary coach Al Arbour) and hockey skate laces (nice touch).
The sneakers ($135), plus an Isles-inspired line of hoodies, tees and hats (made with Mitchell & Ness, $30 to $70), drop on Friday at 8 p.m. at Extra Butter, Rockville Centre: then Saturday at 11 a.m. at Extra Butter, Manhattan; and at noon on extrabutterny.com
