Who says fashion and football don't mix?
Manhattan's top retailers are already preparing for Super Bowl XLVIII's Feb. 2 kick-off at East Rutherford, N.J.'s MetLife Stadium, Women's Wear Daily reports.
So, for those who would rather score a new outfit than a touchdown, or for Giants fans who need some retail therapy to get over this season's shortcomings, here's what to expect:
Bloomingdale's: Bloomie's and the Council of Fashion Designers of America have teamed up to design 48 custom Super Bowl XLVIII helmets, which they will put in a window display at the Lexington Avenue store mid-January. They will also be selling limited-edition NFL and Super Bowl mechandise.
Macy's: Macy's Herald Square store will unveil a 50,000-square-foot NFL shop on its fourth floor in January.
Saks Fifth Avenue: Saks will also open in-store mini shops and special Super Bowl events including a charity brunch and fashion show with NFL players' wives.
Modell's: The sporting goods store will install special window displays and host in-store events surrounding the big game, chief executive officer Mitchell Modell told WWD.
In addition, Broadway between 34th and 47th streets will be transformed into "Super Bowl Boulevard" Jan. 29 - Feb. 2. "The four-day extravaganza will bring together musicians, food and drink, live television broadcasts, NFL autograph sessions and interactive fan events, including a 60-foot toboggan ride that is expected to draw some one million people," WWD says.
