Jaws dropped when Oscar de la Renta’s opening look sauntered onto the runway, this no slow start to a fashion show, but instead – wham -- a luxurious, colorful patchwork embroidered coat that had it (and we mean a lot of “it”) going on.
And if that weren’t enough to tell the story that de la Renta, is fearless, unabashedly extravagant and does what he wants to do --on trend or not -- then look two sealed the deal: a gold bullion embroidered jacquard jacket paired with a red fox skirt.
Every piece in this elaborate and beautiful 60-look collection – jackets, coats, a few pairs of trousers, dresses and gowns – set the glamour Geiger ticking. Even a newsboy cap – one Hunter green – was made of cashgora.
Of course, de la Renta is royalty on the red carpet. And this season, he’s slimmed down the silhouettes for those Hollywood siren body beautiful types. There were bugle beads, silver lame, floral pailettes and more, though our favorite look, an Indigo burn out velvet gown worn with black suede ankle boots that featured indigo brocade, would look great at a White House function. Ahem, Mrs. O.
