When they couldn’t find bath products that suited their refined aesthetic, Lisa Schuler Fine and Michael Fine decided to create them themselves, and start a company called Quiet Town.

The company name reflects the idea that your bathroom can be a sanctuary, says Lisa, a former fashion stylist.

The Quiet Town website launched in April 2016 in Brooklyn, their home at the time, with "Narlai" and "Orient" canvas shower curtains and "Ojai" and "Mendocino" bath rugs, named for the serene places they love, says Michael, a photographer.

In designing their signature "Quiet" towel, they crafted a towel that can be used in the bathroom and at the beach.

"They’re stonewashed, organic, pretty large bath sheet-size towels," says Lisa, noting that they gave the towels a vintage hotel look by adding embossing and practicality with the addition of a loop to hang them.

In the five years since Quiet Town’s inception, they’ve added the colorful Arco towel, shower hooks, more bath rugs and the Sun Shower collection, which can be used alone or as curtain liners with the canvas curtains.

Working with West Elm and other companies, Quiet Town upcycles scraps of canvas to create pillows, rugs and clothing.

"We sort of think of ourselves as a bathroom lifestyle business and the idea is to expand on the lifestyle," says Michael.

To make their products as sustainable as possible, they’ve moved cotton production from India to a small factory in North Carolina, where the cotton is grown and processed.
The Fines, who relocated to their weekend home in Mattituck in March 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and have lived there full-time ever since, had been coming out to the North Fork for many years.

"This area where we are in particular is a big inspiration for us and always has been," says Michael.

Prices start at $35 for sun shower curtains to $200 for quilted canvas curtains. Quiet Town products are sold at West Elm, Nordstrom and quiettownhome.com.
