As the weather warms, skateboarders are heading outside, looking to test their skills on a slice of pavement, concrete wall, metal railing or bowl-shaped ramp.

Whether you're planning to buy your first board or your 15th, Long Island has a number of skateboard shops that carry the most popular brands of boards, skateboard hardware and supplies, and gear to outfit yourself from head to toe.

"Skateboarding has always been more of a trendsetting way of style, and you definitely see the skater look on everyone nowadays," says Gino Iannucci, a professional skateboarder for more than 15 years, who recently opened his own shop -- one of a handful of new spots on the Island. "Our bestselling brand, Nike SB, which stands for Nike Skateboarding, attracts mostly nonskaters."
