Spunky Danielle Trotta of Seaford is Newsday’s “Project Prom” girl this year. The 17-year-old junior,  who attends Seaford High School and is a varsity softball player, is also enrolled in the GC-Tech program in Levittown for cosmetology.

Her mom, Kathy, nominated her. “Danielle has been the 'mayor' of Seaford ever since she was a little girl,” she wrote. “She is in Key Club, Best Buddies, where she works with children who are in special education, and has done four walks this past year for breast cancer, vision, autism and pancreatic cancer. She is a warm, caring person who always has a smile on her face.”

The girl’s good spirits and attitude held fast, says her mom, even after superstorm Sandy destroyed her home and displaced her family for months.

There were smiles all around during our prom shopping spree with Danielle.  Stay tune--and, coming soon, help Danielle decide what to wear to the senior prom. You’re voting. We’re buying.
