Skateboarders-turned-entrepreneurs Pete Szczebak and Chris Santucci opened the newest location of their Special Sauce franchise late last year. The boutique-style store is an offshoot of the original - well known to skateboarders across the Island - in Bay Shore (37 E. Main St., 631-666-3290). While the Bay Shore store has a more old-school, garage-style hangout vibe, the Huntington space is more upscale. Two chandeliers hang from the ceiling, there's lots of dark wood cabinetry and tidy displays of clothes, shoes, hats and sunglasses. Skateboards are mounted like fine art on the back walls.
So far, the clientele ranges from 14-year-olds to adults in their mid-30s, says Justin Cavalieri, a store manager. "A lot of the guys who started skateboarding in the '70s are bringing their kids."
