Last night, models of all ages strutted their stuff at the Savers Walk the Walk Runway Show to celebrate the opening of a new location in Medford.
Models were dressed solely in clothing and accessories from the store, where women's clothing prices l averages $6 to $9, according to store production manager David Ludwig.
One model wore a black Cynthia Steffe cardigan priced at $7.99 as she walked the red-carpeted runway with a grade-schooler, decked out in a colorful floral dress priced at $6.99 in The Children’s Place. The most expensive item of the night was a $67.99 vintage rabbit fur coat, paired with Esprit boots and jeans.
Separated by style and color, the store has dozens of racks of clothing for men, women and children. It also sells pre-owned accessories as handbags, bedding, books, DVDs, furniture and other trinkets you might find at a garage sale.
Most of the store’s inventory comes from items donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, which Savers purchases for resale. Other items are donated directly to the store, but all items come from Long Islanders, said Ludwig.
“We wouldn’t be able to extend our services to the extent we have without Savers,” said Bill Tymann, chief executive of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.
While fashionistas may hit the thrift stores searching for vintage clothing, others are drawn by the prospect of deep bargains.
“We supply in a hard economy,” said Ludwig. “It’s good for the economy and the community as well.”
Savers is located in the shopping center at 700 Patchogue-Yaphank Rd., Medford. Details at savers.com.
