It’s funny how things can change in a season. Last February, at Victoria Beckham, silhouettes were loose and swingy -- trapeze dresses even -- having more than something to do with Beckham’s pregnancy. Now that baby Harper has arrived, and that baby weight has departed, Beckham’s runway was full of mod zipper-backed, body conscious looks in techno-stretches that hugged every curve – some with utilitarian canvas straps.
There were several more forgiving body skimmers: a two-toned shift with a translucent inset, and some pleated numbers. Restrained yet uber-sexy, the collection came in mostly cool colors including blonde, white, gray, a watery amethyst, while blasts of orange, tangerine and navy enlivened some garments.
Outerwear, a newer focus for Beckham, was superb and included some whippet slim dress coats and a beyond chic blousy hooded windbreaker with enough room in it for mere mortals.
Of note, Beckham's show was held in Astor Hall at the New York Public Library at 10 AM. Press was asked to arrive at 9:45 in order to observe moments of silence at 9:59 and 10:03, in memory of September 11. There was complete silence at those times.
