"We started out stocking the store with brands we grew up liking from Australia, California, Washington . . . small companies nobody knew about on Long island," Marley says. "But in the last year we've focused on our own brand, making Wampum T-shirts, hats, board shorts, sweatshirts and jackets. We're working on shoes and sunglasses next."
They even make their own skateboards ($160-180) and screen print T-shirts designed by artist Charles Ly ($30) in-store. A selection of skateboards shows off the work of other local artists, and they stock Adidas skate shoes ($65-75) and a collection of tanks ($30-40) and printed hats ($20-40) for women.
Avid skater Bart Schwarz, 30, of Montauk, says it's the skateboard selection (he currently owns eight) and the graphic Tees that draw him into Wampum. "They do cool artist collaborations and they'll make anything you want custom on the spot," he says. "There's nowhere else like it in our area."
The store now calls TV host Jimmy Fallon, model and former "Real Housewives of New York City" star Kelly Bensimon and record exec L.A. Reid loyal customers. They opened a second location in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood at the end of 2011 and will open their first summer pop-up shop May 24 in Coney Island.
