There are some seriously “OMG” moments at fashion week, but if you’re the betting type, put your money on Zac Posen to deliver them every time. Here, body contoured (hey, one was called "anatomic") suits and cocktail dresses simmered, ball gowns truly stunned.
Posen was clearly under Asian influences when designing this 38-look collection with models coiffed in tight Geisha ‘dos and ensembles that featured graphic obi belts, lustrous jewel tones – Tokyo red, Caspian blue and orchid – and intricate folds and seams that conjured origami. There were kimono-like opera coats that caused gasps, and gigantic architectural numbers – as much construction projects as designs – such eye candy. But walking in them? Not so easy.
Which may be a problem for Posen come Oscar time, when actresses – who love him so – need to make their way down red carpets. That said, there were alternate, sleeker looks, a lovely peony print among them, in which it will be simpler to navigate.
Nitpicking aside, It was a gorgeous show. Afterward, Posen’s mom, Susan, who sat next to Jay Alexander (aka Miss J) was teary-eyed. “It fills me with joy,” she said. We call that verklempt.
