The crowd was getting antsy sitting alfresco on the terrace of Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center Sunday night as Zac Posen was running late, almost by 40 minutes. But then, hit the music (Etta James, singing the 1940s song “A Sunday Kind of Love”) and — BOOM — in saunters Naomi Campbell wearing a vintage-y hibiscus print silk twill and chiffon frock.
All is forgiven.
Campbell was the leader of the all-star pack of models in Posen’s show — Alek Wek, Karolina Kurkova, Angela Lindvall among them — who rarely walk the runway these days, but in fact, championed Posen when he started his business years ago, many working for free for the then-baby designer.
As for the collection, there were stunning floral day and cocktail dresses, a few incredible peplum tops and lots of reoccurring OMG moments derived from a series of gowns, so beautifully constructed and fabricated that they were literally breathtaking. The jade duchess and satin mermaid gown will look stunning with red…carpet.
