Some dads, at the first news of their wife’s pregnancy, get busy building cribs. Or painting the nursery. “Glee” star Matthew Morrison got entrepreneurial.
“I’m so excited, and I just want to be the best father I possibly can be,” Morrison told People magazine last month, while announcing his wife, Renee’s, pregnancy (this will be the couple’s first child), and the launch of Sherpapa Supply Co., a new brand for new dads dreamed up by Morrison and his buddy Zach McDuffie.
The name is a mashup of “Sherpa” (the Himalayan term for mentor or guide) and papa. The idea behind the brand is to offer guys a chance to break the “dorky dad” stereotypes. No more schlepping baby paraphernalia (as dads often do) in diaper bags clearly designed for women.
Sherpapa’s diaper bag — ahem, make that “gear bag” — has been retooled to be “tough, stylish and adaptable for all sorts of different dad-ventures,” notes McDuffie on their website, sherpapa.com
Morrison is just one of several new celebrity dads or dads-to-be out there, and if your pop is anything like these guys, well, we’ve got some gift ideas for you. Because we know he doesn’t need to be a star to be the leading man in your life.
Prepared dads will thank dad-to-be Matthew Morrison, right, and pal Zach McDuffie, left, who co-founded the Sherpapa Supply Co., offering baby gear bags, in cotton or waxed canvas with detachable bridle leather straps and multiple pockets (you can even order a bonded leather changing pad); $175 to $259 at sherpapa.com, or check out other exclusive items for their collaboration at gilt.com
