When it comes to fathers, Long Island may have produced one of the daddest dads around.
Tony Danza — who was born in Brooklyn but spent summers as a kid with his aunt and uncle in Patchogue, and eventually moved to Malverne — seems to have aced fatherhood. Besides being a father (of four) himself, he’s also one of TV’s most famous dads (having played pops to Alyssa Milano on “Who’s the Boss” from 1984 to 1992). These days he keeps it paternal with more TV (playing Josh Groban’s dad on the upcoming Netflix mystery series “The Good Cop”) and with the Police Athletic League (PAL), where he developed an acting program to mentor teens from high-need communities.
“In acting, you have to listen, speak clearly, be present, be part of something bigger than yourself — all things you have to do in life,” says Danza, who works with the kids and will perform with them at PAL’s fundraising gala at John Jay College June 28 (details at palnyc.org).
With Father’s Day coming on June 17, we got to thinking of other famous LI dads, and the gifts we’re sure they’d love. If any of these guys remind you of a dad in your life, use them as inspiration for a gift of your own. Just show the old man you care.
Multi-tasking dad: Tony Danza
Now 68, the busy boxer-turned-actor-turned-singer wasn’t always so savvy, recalling an “Omega” watch he bought as a teen on the street in the Garment District — just $35 bucks! — for his dad one Father’s Day. Turns out when dad moved the minute hand, it revealed a “T” on the watch face. Yeah. A genuine “Tomega.” Danza laughs. “My dad said, ‘I love it, don’t worry, but…you know you got taken, right?’”

Cool dad: LL Cool J
The Manhasset resident and father of four made a name for himself making some major noise (he’s earned two Grammys for his hip hop hits, wipes out bad guys on CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles,” and this spring launched “Rock the Bells Radio,” his own classic hip hop channel on SiriusXM). But what’s distinctive about this Bay Shore native, 50, is his quiet cool. That, and the fact that in December he became the first rapper saluted at the Kennedy Center Honors. “Treat the janitor the same way you treat the millionaire. With respect and humility,” he recently tweeted. See? Coooool.

Today, he lives with his wife and three kids in Dix Hills, where the former UFC middleweight champ has been recovering from a thumb injury, which has kept him out of the UFC octagon for nearly a year.
He’s kept busy recording on-air segments for MSG, where he’s interviewed athletes and set up mini competitions. “Because every athlete — that’s what we love to do, that’s why we do what we do,” he said in a recent MSG interview.
