It's that time of year when you can dress up as your favorite superhero, movie villain, musician or make your own costume and show it off at a Halloween bash. Luckily, this year, the spooky holiday falls on a Sunday, giving Long Islanders a full weekend to enjoy the festivities. Here are restaurants, bars and more local spots hosting costume parties, contests and trivia nights.

Halloween bash at CJ's, Palms Hotel Fire Island

There will be a free buffet from 7 to 9 p.m., plus happy hour drinks including "Shocktails." DJ Fi-Ra will spin starting at 9 p.m. A costume contest will take place with $500 for top outfit; other prizes and giveaways will go to other winners. Rooms will be available at the The Palms Hotel starting at $300; a water taxi will leave at 1 a.m. for those not staying the night.

Night Of The Living Cover Bands

A seven-night event, this mini concert series takes place at four different Long Island venues and features several local musicians performing while dressed as their own favorite artists or bands. Vendors and visual artists will be displaying and selling their work; hosted by Maxwell Peters (pictured).

Trivia begins at 7 p.m., and players may arrive in costume. Staffers will choose a best-dressed winner. First place in the costume contest and top trivia winner both score a $50 gift certificate for use in the restaurant and second and third place trivia winners each get a bottle of wine.

Claudio's Waterfront Costume Party

From 9 p.m. to 1 p.m., all who wear costumes score free admission to this boo bash with DJ Phil spinning beats; the venue is premiering its $14 "Frozen Basic Witch" cocktail, which will be available all night for purchase.

Shandon Court's Annual Halloween Trivia Night

Cold Spring Harbor 'Witches Night Out'

Attendees from across the Island dress up as witches, as dozens of stores and restaurants across the hamlet offer discounts and deals. Some will giveaway treats during the event. Tenth Annual Halloween Party at The Leaky Lifeboat Inn
