Not just the halls are decked in these houses. Get a glimpse inside these private homes and historic mansions across Long Island that are dazzled up for the holidays.


CENTERPORT, HOLIDAY TOURS, Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium, 180 Little Neck Rd., 631-854-5579, Five guided tours of the decorated mansion, each leaves on the hour with the last one departing at 4 p.m. Fee $13 adults, $12 students and 62 and older, $9 ages 12 and younger. Dates Noon-4 p.m. Tue. and Fri. Nov. 24-Jan. 2.

SOUTHOLD, CANDLELIGHT HOLIDAY TOUR, Southold Historical Society, 55200 Rte. 25 (Main Road and Maple Lane),, 631-765-5500. Candlelight tour at the museum, opposite the firehouse. All buildings will be decorated for the holidays. Farm and home craft demonstrations in the various buildings, musicians strolling the grounds. Santa will visit, and refreshments will be served. Tree lighting at 5 p.m. Fee Donations. Date 3-6 p.m. Nov. 24.

OLD WESTBURY GARDENS, HOLIDAY CELEBRATION, 71 Old Westbury Rd.,, 516-333-0048. Period rooms decorated with Christmas trees, wreaths, mantelpiece arrangements, topiaries and plants. Antique clothing and toys from the Westbury House collection will be on display. Children can create crafts and visit with Santa. Enjoy hot cider and cookies. Tree lighting Dec. 2 (call for time). Fee Call. Dates 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 27-30, Dec. 5-7, Dec. 11-14, Dec. 18-21.


SETAUKET, CANDLELIGHT HOUSE TOUR, Three Village Historical Society, 93 North Country Rd., 631-751-3730, Three Village Historical Society structures in full holiday decor with attention to architectural features and historic details. Fri. evening includes wine, hors d’oeuvres and a reception 9-11 p.m. follows at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 429 Rte. 25A, Setauket. Saturday includes breakfast 8:30-10:30 a.m. Fee Call. Dates 6-9 p.m. Dec. 1, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 2.

BABYLON, NATHANIEL CONKLIN HOUSE, Nathaniel Conklin House, 280 Deer Park Ave., 631-669-8164, First floor is decorated, with each room reflecting the history of the 1803 house over the years, refreshments; part of Babylon Village’s Old Fashioned Night of Shopping. Fee Free. Date 6-9 p.m. Dec. 1.

ST. JAMES, ART AND CRAFT HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE, Deepwells Farm County Park, Route 25A and Moriches Road,, 631-563-8551. Stained glass, jewelry, floral arrangements, fiber arts and more. Hot chocolate and cookies served, benefits the Deepwells Farm Historical Society. Christmas tree lighting 4:30 p.m. Dec. 2. Fee $5 adults, free younger than 12. Dates 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 2-3, Dec. 9-10.

AMITYVILLE, HOLIDAY HOME TOUR, 631-264-6000. Grand tour of several homes on Grand Central Avenue festively decorated for the holiday season. Raffles, vendors, music and tea and cookies served at the Tea House. After the tour, the Amityville Village tree lighting will be at 5 p.m. Fee $20. Date 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 2.

PORT JEFFERSON’S CHARLES DICKENS FESTIVAL, Port Jefferson Village, 631-473-5220, History comes alive for the holiday, family- oriented celebration with trolley and carriage rides, vendors, costumed characters from “A Christmas Carol,” Victorian entertainment and more. Fee Free; pay for some activities and events. Dates Dec. 2-3.

HUNTINGTON, SELF-GUIDED HOLIDAY HISTORIC HOUSE TOUR, 1750 David Conklin Farmhouse Museum, 2 High St.,, 631-427-7045. On tour day, see local residences from Colonial times through the current century, refreshments served. Fee $40. Date Noon- 4 p.m. Dec. 3.

WEST BAY SHORE, CHRISTMAS AT SAGTIKOS, Sagtikos Manor, Montauk Highway, West Bay Shore, 631-321-6809, The manor is decorated in a “Christmas Is Coming” holiday theme. Tour leaves every 15 minutes, reservations recommended, suitable for ages 6 and older. Fee $25 adults, $20 seniors and students in advance, $8 ages 5-12; $30 at the door. Dates 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Dec. 9-10.

EAST HAMPTON, HOLIDAY TOUR, 631-324-0362, Self-guided holiday tour of inns, bed-and-breakfasts and special places, plus programs and light refreshments; call the Chamber in advance for details. Fee Free. Date Noon-4 p.m. Dec. 9.

NORTHPORT, HOMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS TOURS, Northport Historical Society, 215 Main St., 631-757-9859, Some of Northport’s finest properties in full holiday splendor. Reservations are strongly encouraged. Fee $35 in advance, $40 day of. Date Noon- 4 p.m. Dec. 10.

OLD BETHPAGE, CANDLELIGHT EVENINGS, Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd., 516-572-8401, 19th century entertainment in historic buildings lit only by candlelight, as they would be on holiday evenings during the 1800s, holiday songs, period storytelling, hot apple cider and fiddle music. Last ticket sale at 8 p.m. Fee Call. Dates 5-9:30 p.m. Dec. 14-17.

SAYVILLE, HOLIDAY HOUSE TOUR, Edwards Homestead, Edwards Street and Collins Avenue, 631-563-0186, Tour five or six beautiful homes all decked out for the holidays. Tickets, sold only in advance, available in the Edwards Homestead on Nov. 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. Fee $25. Date 2-4 p.m. Dec. 17.
