Looking to learn a thing or two so you can take your garden to the next level this year? The Suffolk County Cornell Cooperative Extension’s 2012 Spring Gardening School is a great place for one-stop, garden-education shopping. Advance registration is underway for $55 (it'll be $60 at the door.) For your money, you'll get to attend 4 sessions of your choosing, continental breakfast, box lunch, afternoon refreshments and exhibits, plus soil tests and plant diagnosis (Bring plant specimens and soil samples; call for instructions: 631-727-7850, x345 or x337.) Preregistration is required, and it's first-come, first-served.
Classes are taught by Extension master gardeners and educators at two locations: The Academy of St. Joseph in Brentwood (Saturday, April 14 from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.) and Riverhead Middle School in Riverhead (Saturday, April 21, also from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
Classes include Introduction to Floral Design, organic Turn Management, Starting Vegetable & Flower Seeds Indoors, Introduction to Hydrangeas, Gardening 101, Growing Roses on Long island, Figs Figs Figs, Gardening with Children, Pruning, Sustainable Gardens, Spring & Summer Flowering Bulbs, Edible Flowers, Garden Design, plus many more to choose from.
