Every gardener knows June is for roses, so it's only fitting that the Long Island Rose Society is holding its annual judging and exhibition on Sunday, June 9 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park (1395 Planting Fields Rd., Oyster Bay).

The show, titled "Fairy Tales and Roses," will feature hundreds of roses of all classes, from minis and hybrid teas to climbers and old garden roses -- all grown in Long Island gardens. Attendees will get to meet the growers to discuss the characteristics and requirements of each rose, and will learn about the newest varieties of disease-resistant and easy-to-grow landscape roses.

American Rose Society certified consulting rosarians also will be on hand to answer questions, and visitors can get free trial memberships. There also will be a plant sale and raffles.

Admission to the show is free, but parking at Planting Fields is $8.
