If you live near the beach and you'd like to grow things there, you should stop what you're doing and register for Tuesday's Fall Gardening Symposium in Southampton.
You can count on the full-day event at the Southampton Inn to be chock-full of valuable information, as it's being offered by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County. And classes will be taught by experts in the field: A Farmingdale State College professor, a landscape designer, a farmer and a container garden designer.
Classes include "Seaside Gardening," "Selecting the Right Plants for Seaside Gardens," "Growing a Community Garden" and "Container Design for Seaside Gardens." The classes are intersperced throughout the day with breaks and book sales. The day ends with garden visits in Bridgehampton and Southampton.
