Hicks Nurseries in Westbury will be kicking off its annual Flower & Garden Show tomorrow, with indoor display gardens, horticultural seminars, children's activities and cooking demonstrations that will run through March 21.
Check out the gardens to get some inspiration for plants you can plant at home -- just understand that the gardens at Hicks (and all of these gorgeous indoor flower shows) use plants that were grown in greenhouses and forced to bloom out of season, so, in most cases, you won't be able to duplicate exactly what you see there. Still, you'll get plenty ideas from strolling the bulb garden, tropical garden and shade garden on display. Plus, seeing those plants in full bloom is a much-needed and welcome sight after the winter we've had.
The show, in its 20th year at Hicks, is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
Hicks Nurseries is located at 100 Jericho Turnpike, Westbury, 516-334-0066, hicksnurseries.com.
