A hanging shoe-organizer garden is a great way for anyone to grow edibles -- or even flowers -- without using a square inch of land. -- Jessica Damiano
Here's what you'll need:
Metal curtain rod or pipe, and screws
Sturdy hooks or wire
Compost or moisture-retaining potting mix
Plants or seeds (herbs, lettuces, peas, dwarf tomatoes, etc.)
A 2-by-2-inch piece of lumber the length of the shoe organizer
Step 1: Attach a metal curtain rod to the exterior wall with metal fittings.
Step 2: Using wire or sturdy hooks, fasten the shoe organizer to the rod.
Step 3: Fill pockets with water to check the drainage. If water does not escape, poke a few small holes in the bottom of each pocket.
Step 4: Fill each pocket to one inch below the top with compost or potting mix.
Step 5: Add seeds or plants.
