Nassau County will be ground spraying for mosquitoes this week in the following communities on the following days:
Tuesday: Farmingdale, South Farmingdale, North Massapequa, Plainedge, Bethpage, Old Bethpage, Plainview, Hicksville and Levittown.
Wednesday: Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Malverne, Lakeview, Franklin Square and West Hempstead.
Thursday: West Hempstead, Valley Stream and North Valley Stream
On each of these days, the spraying program will be in effect between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Although the county says that Scourge, the pesticide being used, isn't a danger to most humans, it is recommending precautions. Be sure to stay indoors, set your air conditioner to use recirculated air (if you're running it), keep windows closed and avoid using window fans during the spraying.
Bring toys and pet dishes, etc., indoors before the spraying. Though we're told there's no need to clean playground sets or patio furniture afterward, I would. Or cover these things beforehand, just to be safe.
The county recommends the following precautions:
"Children and pregnant women should take care to avoid exposure when practical. If possible, remain inside or avoid the area whenever spraying takes place and for about thirty minutes after spraying. That time period will greatly reduce the likelihood of your breathing pesticide in air.
Close windows and doors and turn off window air-conditioning units or close their vents to circulate indoor air before spraying begins. Windows and air-conditioner vents can be reopened about 30 minutes after spraying."
