Spring gardening school registration underway

Now's the time to sharpen your knowlege to ensure a thriving garden this year -- registration for the Suffolk County Cornell Cooperative Extension’s 2011 Spring Gardening School is underway. Register by tomorrow and pay just $50; after that, prepaid tuition will cost $55. Registration at the door will be $60.

For your money, you'll get a full day of instruction, which includes four gardening classes, continental breakfast, box lunch, afternoon refreshments, soil tests, plant diagnosis and exhibits at your choice of three locations: The Academy of St. Joseph in Brentwood (April 2, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.), Bellport High School (April 9, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.) or Riverhead High School (April 16, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.).

Educational exhibits, free soil testing, a plant clinic and plant sale will round out the day. Bring plant specimens and soil samples; call for instructions: 631-727-7850, x 345 or X337).

Classes will be taught by extension master gardener volunteers and extension educators.
