Interested in becoming a certified nursery landscape profesional? Long Island Nursery Landscape Association (LINLA) and the Nassau and Suffolk Cornell Cooperative Extensions are offering a 30-hour education program that will help get you there, as well as fulfill DEC requirements.
The course can be taken in its entirely, or you can opt to attend individual sessions just to fill in your knowledge gaps. Here's a schedule of offerings:
Feb. 1 - Botany and Soil & Fertilizer
Feb. 3 - Pruning Trees & Shrubs and Planting & Maintenance of Trees & Shrubs
Feb. 8 - Turf establishment/maintenance/pests and Site assessment/Landscaping
Feb. 10- Insects & Diseases on Ornamentals and Annuals & Perennials
Feb. 15 -Tree & Shrub ID part 1 and part 2
Classes run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Hicks Nursery in Westbury, except for the last class on identification, which will be held at Planting Fields in Oyster Bay. Individual classes run $55 apiece; the fee for the entire course is $250.
