Kidsday: Visiting Chelsea Market

Chelsea Market, at 75 Ninth Ave. in Manhattan, is a great place. There are so many great places to eat there. It is also the home of the Food Network, and many of its TV shows are filmed upstairs.

We walked around the first-floor food court, and we got to talk to a lot of the people who work there. There are more than 30 food vendors in Chelsea Market, so we had our choice of many great places to eat. We were not alone, either. The day we were there, it was a little rainy, so a lot of people were thinking like we were, and they were inside the Market having something to eat.

Every time we went into a shop, we asked someone who worked there these questions: Why should people come to your store? What is the most popular item in your store? Do you like working here, and what do you do? Is it fun to make fresh food every day? About how many people come in here each day?

We went into Eleni's New York cupcake store and One Lucky Duck. At Lucy's Whey, we met Ruth Lazenby and we got to try some great cheese! At Jacques Torres Chocolate, we tried some yummy fresh hot chocolate made by Jacklyn Grigg and Mayo Redding. After we spoke to Caitlin Mosiniak at the RonnybrookMilk Bar, she gave everyone a scoop of their favorite ice cream flavor.

Our favorite experience in the market was when we actually met Sarabeth of Sarabeth's Bakery. She let us go into the back kitchen where they baked, and we got to try one of her delicious chocolate cupcakes. She even squirted frosting on each of our fingers to try! Delicious!

We had a great time at the market, and after spending a few hours there, and a few dollars, we were pretty full. We think everyone should go to Chelsea Market and see the wide variety of food you can get to eat there or to take home with you.
