Dog and cat adoption events on Long Island, New York City

Thinking of adopting?

Local shelters including North Shore Animal League America and Bideawee are partnering with pet stores and organizations to bring adoption specials to Long Island and Manhattan.

Events include parties, mobile adoptions and festivals, and some shelters are even waiving fees. Stop by one of these adoption events if you're looking to add a furry friend to your family.

LONG ISLAND

Sat., May 2, 2015: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
St. Joseph's Hospital, 4295 Hempstead Tpke., Bethpage
During St. Joseph's annual Spring Fling event, pets from Bideawee shelter will be available for adoption. The event includes crafts, games, music, food and adoptable dogs and cats.

Sat., May 16, 2015: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
PetSmart, Smithtown Plaza, 3050 Middle Country Rd, Nesconset
Long Island's Best Pet Adoption Event: Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons joins local animal shelters at Lake Grove Petsmart to promote pet adoptions during National Adoption Awareness Weekend.

June 2015
North Shore Animal League America, 16 Lewyt St., Port Washington

Since 1955, North Shore Animal League has hosted its June Pet Adoptathon. The shelter promotes adoption specials and partners with more than 2,000 other shelters in America.

Now through February 2016
Smithtown Animal Shelter, 410 E. Main St., Smithtown
Adoption fees are waived if you take home one of Smithtown Animal Shelter's adoptable adult cats from now until next Valentine's Day.

MANHATTAN

Fri., May 1, 2015: 7-9 p.m.
National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park S., Manhattan
Animal Care and Control of NYC will host its 8th annual Spring Fling for animal lovers. Enjoy music, cocktails and donations. Party-goers can also meet adoptable dogs and cats in the mobile adoption center.

Sun., May 3, 2015: 4 p.m.
Gotham Comedy Club, 208 West 23rd St., Manhattan
The Stand Up For Pits Foundation brings adoptable dogs and cats to the Stand Up For Pits event. Adoptions are at 5 p.m., with a silent auction at 6:30 p.m. The comedy event begins at 7:30 p.m.

Sat., May 9, 2015: Noon-4 p.m.
Orvis, 522 Fifth Ave., 42th Street, Manhattan
Stop by Orvis retail stores to celebrate pet adoptions. Bideawee shelter experts will help adopters find the perfect pup during the Orvis Days with Bideawee event.

Sat., May 16, 2015: Noon-4 p.m.
Petco, 1155 Third Ave., 67th Street, Manhattan
Bideawee shelter dogs and cats will be at Petco's Manhattan location. Pets can be adopted on the same day.
