Mars Petcare US is voluntarily recalling some batches of its Cesar Classics Filet Mignon Flavor wet dog food “due to a potential choking risk from white plastic pieces,” according to petmd.com.
Bought separately or as a multipack, affected containers can be identified by their “best before” dates, which are Aug. 4, 2018, and Aug. 5, 2018. Affected individual packages have a UPC number of 23100017792 with a lot code of 631FKKC or 631GKKC, whereas affected multipacks can be identified by these lot codes: 632D14JC, 633B24JC, 634A14JC, 634A24JC, 634B14JC, 634B24JC, 634E14JC, 635A24JC, 635B14JC, 636D24JC and 636E14JC.
“While a small number of consumers have reported finding the plastic pieces, to date, we have not received any reports of injury or illness associated with the affected product,” Mars Petcare US said in a statement.
Pet owners are encouraged to return affected packages for a full refund or exchange, or immediately discard them. The company said all other Cesar products have been deemed safe for consumption.
