“Adopt, don’t shop” is the popular slogan when it comes to finding a pet these days, but this week, Gilt is offering the best of both worlds.

In celebration of National Dog Day Aug. 26, the shopping site is teaming up with North Shore Animal League America — the world’s largest no-kill animal shelter and adoption agency — and will cover the cost of puppy adoptions at a three-day event at Gilt’s store inside the Saks OFF 5th shopping outlet.

Gilt will cover adoption fees for the first 20 approved adopters during its “Dog Days of Summer” event, where visitors to the store can play with puppies and shop dog accessories, also available at Gilt’s online store. “Every time you adopt you are saving two lives — the animal you take home and the one we can rescue to take its place [at the shelter],” said North Shore Animal League America’s Anthony Angioletti in a statement to amNewYork.

For more information, and for those interested in preapproval for adoption (which starts Aug. 23), visit gilt.com.

The in-store event runs Aug. 26-28, between noon and 5 p.m. at Saks OFF 5th, 125 East 57th St..
