Great places to pick apples on Long Island

It’s easy pickings at these orchards across Long Island. If you have a favorite apple, call in advance or check website for varieties available. Dogs are usually not allowed in the orchards. And please stay out of the apple trees, orchard owners say.

NORTH FORK: Hayden's Orchard

Fee $2 a pound; $.05 for bags, $4 baskets to carry apples, or may bring your own bags/baskets.

Fee $14 for 3 and older, includes 3 pound apple picking bag.

NORTH FORK: Woodside Orchards

Varieties 6, including Idared, Red Delicious, Gala, Melrose, Honeycrisp and Mutsu; check website for availability. Fee $16 for a 12-15-pound bag per group. Farm stand sells fresh pressed apple cider, cider doughnuts, pies, apple breads and candy apples plus hard cider tastings and offers hard cider tastings.
