Special features:

Nestled on the southern shore of Long Island, the Bay Shore Marina is a part of quaint, cozy downtown Bay Shore. The breeze rolls off the water, creating a relaxing atmostphere for visitors. There is a beach with lifeguards on duty along with Shipwreck Cove, a spray park. If fishing is your thing, there's plenty to be found on the docks. Also, visitors can anchor their boats in the marina, take the Fire Island ferry, the Lauren Kristy steamboat cruise, or simply sit and enjoy the breeze.

Price: Free for Town of Islip residents with a recreation card; $5 for town residents without a recreation card; $10 for nonresidents. Both seniors and kids under 3 get in free. Remember: Residents with proof of residency (such as a driver's license) can purchase a recreation card for $25.

To get into Shipwreck Cove spray park, you must pay $10 if a nonresident plus the $10 entrance fee. Town of Islip residents (with recreation card) pay $5. Residents (without recreation card) pay $7 plus the $5 admission to the marina. Seniors pay $1.50. Kids under 3 get in free.

A large lot provides lots of free parking, but get there early because spots fill up quick in the late afternoon. Restrooms are located near the park office and new spray park (on the right).

What people are doing: Visitors can take the ferry to Fire Island that sets sail at the end of Maple Avenue and Short Lane. There is also the option of a dinner cruise on the 65-foot steamboat,  Lauren Kristy. The dock is located at the end of Clinton Avenue in the marina.

Something new: Shipwreck Cove spray park is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. If visitors aren't interested in slides, a dumping barrel or continuous spraying water, the beach is adjacent to the park.
