Small plates have worldwide appeal. There's American bar food, Italian antipasti, Middle Eastern meze and, of course, Spanish tapas.

At these four Long Island restaurant-wine bars, you can share some small plates while sipping something red, white or rose.

VINOCO WINE BAR & TAPAS RESTAURANT, 147 Mineola Blvd., Mineola, 516-307-8056

At this convivial wine bar, global small plates include steamed Asian buns stuffed with pork belly and hoisin sauce, well-marinated chicken skewers and flaky empanadas filled with wild mushroom and cheese.

ESPAÑA TAPAS & WINE BAR, 655 Middle Country Rd., St. James, 631-656-1564

This classically Spanish tapas and wine bar serves up assorted Spanish meats and cheeses, cod fish croquetas and crisp patatas bravas.

UVA ROSSA WINE BAR, 243 Hempstead Ave., Malverne, 516-612-7400

The draw at this pulsating wine bar is Italianate small plates. Standouts include bruschetta with pickled figs, Taleggio cheese and roasted pistachio as well as meatball sliders.

PLANCHA TAPAS AND WINE BAR, 931 Franklin Ave., Garden City, 516-246-9459

In many ways, the high ceilings and wood beams resemble the decor at its older sibling, Salumi Tapas and Wine Bar in Massapequa. The difference in Garden City is the presence of a flat-top Spanish grill -- or plancha. Good bets: a mini panino of sopressata, Italian cheeses and Spanish paprika; and pork belly bocadillo, a little sandwich made with kimchee, sesame mayo, lime and cilantro.
