The farm stands on the East End are bursting with ripe strawberries.

And that means you should go directly to Snowflake in Riverhead.

Snowflake, the great ice-cream spot, currently is making sundaes with sweetened, fresh berries as the seasonal competition for chocolate fudge. In addition to the fresh peaches that highlight the Snowflake repertoire in summer, the strawberry season is reason enough to visit. Go all out; add the whipped cream, too.

For the record. the flavor-of-the-week has been especially grand recently. Currently, it's ginger-chocolate chip, which combines ginger ice cream and dark chocolate chips; The week before: rugelach-and-cream flavor, an equally  terrific combo. Naturally, the strawberry ice cream itself is great.

And brings some ice cream home — along with a pint or two of local strawberries.

Snowflake is at 1148 W. Main St., Riverhead; 631-727-4394.
