This Hanukkah is looking bright for Jason Weiner, chef at Almond in Bridgehampton. On Monday, Weiner’s potato latke with house-smoked bluefish, goat yogurt and dill snagged first place at the Third Annual Latke Festival, held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
The contest, a latke throwdown involving locally sourced potatoes, was co-hosted by Great Performances, a catering operation, and Edible Brooklyn, a food publication. Weiner competed against such names as Bill Telepan of Telepan in Manhattan and Ron Ben-Israel, the force behind Ron Ben-Israel Cakes and also the judge of Food Network's “Sweet Genius.“
The panel of judges included cookbook author and food journalist Melissa Clark and Mitchell Davis, vice president of the James Beard Foundation.
At Almond, Weiner will be offering a latke special every night of Hanukkah.
Almond is at 1 Ocean Rd., Bridgehampton; 631-537-5665.
