ASA Peruvian Tapas & Sushi, which brought new and bright fare to downtown Huntington, has closed after less than a year.

The ownership cited "reasons beyond our control," but added that it expected to reopen locally "very soon."

Hermanto Jong, who worked in the Nobu restaurant group for a decade, prepared subtle, often elegant fare in the sleek, serene dining room at 46 Gerard St. ASA earned a two-and-a-half-star rating in Newsday in July.

Standout dishes included Jong's chef's choice sushi, accented with toppings such as sesame aioli, sweet miso, chimichurri, tomatillo salsa and frizzled onion; fluke tiradito; tacos with uncooked fish; pan-fried beef dumplings; sausage sliders; and tempura-style shrimp, eggplant, and sweet potato.
