Long Island now has three branches of Bareburger, the newest one in Rockville Centre. Back in 2013, Bareburger opened its first Long Island restaurant in Great Neck. A Port Washington branch made its debut in early summer.

At these burger spots, the sensibility is green. Decor makes use of reclaimed material; meats are free-range, humanely raised and free of antibiotics and hormones. One way to order is by picking a patty, like beef, wild boar, turkey, duck or quinoa. Then, choose a bun, such as a brioche or sprout roll. Toppings and sauces, some at an additional charge ($.55 to $3.15)  include cheese, duck bacon, vegetables and curry ginger ketchup. Alternatively, you could go with a set option, like the Blue Elk, with elk, blue cheese and fig jam, among ingredients. Or the Fire Quacker with duck, pepper Jack cheese and habanero mayo in the mix. Burgers start at $8.80 for a plain patty and go up to $12.85 for a Southern Caviar bison burger with bacon, onions, pimiento cheese and horseradish rémoulade. The repertoire also includes salads, sandwiches and milk shakes, as well as a kids' menu.

Bareburger was born in Astoria in 2009 and has expanded throughout the metro area and nationwide. There's a Bareburger in Toronto and one in Tokyo, with a branch in Dubai soon to debut. Closer to home, though, a new Plainview Bareburger is expected to launch within the next couple of months.

Bareburger is at 235 Merrick Rd., Rockville Centre, 516-442-4090
