With its bold red chandeliers, orange banquettes and lavender accents, the dining room at Barto in Roslyn commands attention. It’s a place to go for people-watching, too, where you might share a few starters, such as the calamari with chili aioli ($16), hamachi with citron vinegar ($23) or a Calabrese pizza with salami, soppressata, chorizo, arugula and Parmesan.

Bay Shore is a fine weekend destination, whether you’re hopping aboard the ferry to Fire Island or staying landside. It’s also the home of one of Long Island’s best pizzerias, The Pie at Salvatore’s. This younger sibling to Port Washington’s Salvatore’s serves the same excellent coal-fired-oven pizzas, but also a larger menu with some location-appropriate seafood selections: a clam pizza and linguine with clam sauce. Cash only. No slices.

There’s no more All You Can Eat option at 110 Japan in Huntington Station, but there’s something for everyone in terms of experience: a bright, blue-light lounge with horseshoe banquettes and TV screens, a sedate main dining room and sushi bar, and a 12-table hibachi space where the chefs toss food and put on quite the show. From the massive menu, try the crispy duck salad, the soft shell crab tempura. all variations of sushi and sashimi and, for those watching their weight, the Skinny Roll — cucumber wrapped with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, homemade guacamole, white asparagus and a chef special sauce.
