Beach brats aren’t a reference to naughty, wading children, but to sausages on the menu at Bay Breeze Bistro, the restaurant that opened earlier this month as a part of the Bay Breeze Inn & Bistro in South Jamesport.

Last year, Donna and David Perrin bought the property, which dates back to the 1860s, with Frank and Donna Scarola, the owners of Cedar House Bed & Breakfast in Mattituck.

Ms. Perrin is the general manager of the six-room inn and the restaurant, which seats about 50, including a dozen seats outside on the deck. Running the kitchen is Kristi Macdonald, former chef at North Fork Country Club.

Breakfast satisfies traditionalists with egg sandwiches ($5), a DIY omelet ($12), pulled pork hash ($11) and a selection of eggs Benedict ($11 to $15).

In addition to that bratwurst — dressed with onions and served with a side of fries ($10), the lunch menu features lobster rolls (market price), burgers ($13), wraps and salads ($9 to $15) as well as grilled items like the sliced steak sandwich on ciabatta with sauteed onions, horseradish, Cheddar, mayo and onion rings ($15).

A small plates-happy hour menu is available from 3 to 9 p.m., with items like wings, burgers, sliders and crabcakes for $5 to $12. Desserts are geared to the sandwich lover, with a drunken-berry croissant dressed with house-made chocolate sauce and whipped cream as well as the French toast ice cream sandwich. Desserts range from $6 to $8.

Bay Breeze Bistro is open seven days a week in-season from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The bistro will offer modified hours year-round in the offseason.
