Whose ribs reign supreme? On Sunday, Sept. 21, the Hicksville Fire Department is hosting its fourth annual barbecued rib cook-off in Cantiague Park, and the winner will be determined by the ticket-buying public. Here’s how it works: $10 buys six tickets, five of which are good for one rib from any of the dozen or so teams competing. Use the sixth ticket to vote for the rib you liked best. Want more ribs? Buy more tickets. You can buy as many tickets as you like, and at the end of the day, the team with the most votes wins.

The sampling begins at 1:30 p.m. and ends when the ribs are sold out. The people’s choice will be announced about 3:30 p.m.

Think you’ve got what it takes to win the rib contest? The deadline for teams to sign up is Sept. 18. In addition to the people’s choice ribs, teams will compete in a judged competition for ribs, chicken or beef (BBQ Brethren rules). Teams will begin setting up at Cantiague Park on Saturday, Sept. 20, and the winners will be announced after the people’s choice award. The entrance fee is $100; click here for details.

Also on the premises: The classic rock band Chicken Head, and a judged car show open to all cars, trucks, and motorcycles. (Fees: show cars $20; spectators $5; kids under 12, free.)

Net proceeds go the American Heart Association.

The battle is joined at Cantiague Park, 480 W. John St., Hicksville. For more information go to hicksvillehose4cookoff.com, email info@hicksvillehose4cookoff.com or call 516-698-7799.
