Callie Brennan and Tim Martino lamented that there was neither a cheese store nor a craft-beer store in their village of Stony Brook. So last week they opened a store that sells both.
Brew Cheese, in the Stony Brook Village Center, stocks about two dozen cheeses -- local (Sigit and Mecox Sunrise from Mecox Dairy in Bridgehampton), domestic (Humboldt Fog from Cypress Grove, California) and imported (Fromager d'Affinois from France) -- and about as many beers. The beer selection, however, focuses on Long Island brews, with six on tap. Right now, hoist a pint or fill a growler with Wanderlust from Riverhead's Moustache Brewing Co., or Black Duck Porter from Greenport Harbor Brewing Co.
Brennan and Martino are the owners of Crazy Beans, the Stony Brook cafe a few steps away from Brew Cheese; Brennan owns the original Crazy Beans in Miller Place.
Brew Cheese is at 127 Main St., Stony Brook, 631-675-6060.
