Bistro Etcetera in Port Washington is aptly named. It has the charm of a traditional bistro and then adds a lot more.
The newcomer to Main Street takes over the site once occupied by Bistro Toulouse. And the friendly sliver of an eatery delivers some satisfying French fare, but its direction is New American.
Enjoy the pan-roasted combination of shrimp and cubes of chorizo sausage, finished with tomato and tequila; or the roasted duck quesadilla, ready for a dip in hoisin sauce. The ancho-chile rubbed strip steak is fibrous and good, boosted by a genuinely herbaceous chimichurri, the popular sauce of Argentina.
And you'll veer French with a delectable dark chocolate-and-orange pot de creme, completed with freshly whipped cream.
