The Port Washington dining scene, always mercurial, continues to evolve.
An opening: Bistro Etcetera has made its debut in the space that used to house Bistro Toulouse. Chef-owner Karen Melanie LaRocco (who prefers being called Melanie) grew up in Garden City and had a restaurant called Melanie’s Bistro in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.
A glance at her menu at Bistro Etcetera reveals an appetizer of seared wasabi-dusted scallops ($14), an entree of ancho chili-rubbed N.Y. strip steak ($27) and, for dessert, sticky toffee pudding.
Right now, the place is open for dinner only Wednesday to Monday from 5 p.m.; it’s closed Tuesday. Sunday brunch should kick in soon and lunch is expected to be served come spring.
Bistro Etcetera is at 43 Main St., Port Washington, 516-472-7780.
A closing: Vintage Port Wine Bar & Café, which opened at 109 Main St. in 2008 under the same ownership of the former Bistro du Village.
