Corned beef-topped potato skins, 20 taps, 16 screens — Commack has a new place to watch the last half of football season.
A sports bar and restaurant, Bleachers Bar and Grill, opened earlier this month in the renovated Jericho Turnpike space that used to hold Bantry Bay.
While corned beef and cabbage empanadas are no longer on the menu, plenty of pub classics are, including five iterations of chicken wings ($12 for 12), Jack Daniel's pulled-pork sliders ($11) and their sea-borne equivalent, lobster sliders ($19). The most luxe of the sandwiches is a $17 rib-eye steak sandwich topped with sauteed mushooms, crispy onions and jalapeno-basil mayo.
The kitchen uses its share of Guinness, too, from the Guinness-caramelized onions atop the Bleachers burger ($15, also topped with Gruyere and sweet-potato fries) to Guinness-battered cod and chips platter ($17). Soups, salads, wraps and pizza (including a version topped with HP sauce) round out the menu.
Bleachers' 20 taps are given over to a mix of major-label beers as well as local brews from Blue Point Brewing Company, Greenport Harbor Brewery, Sand City Brewing Co. and others. There is also a full bar, with ample whiskey, martinis and house cocktails such as apple sangria.
The restaurant will celebrate its grand opening starting on Thursday, with half-price draft beers and other specials.
