For all the decades Martin Accardi has spent in the construction business, he also harbored a dream: “I always wanted to run a little coffee shop, off the beaten path, where I could spend the day talking to customers.”
Accardi was a frequent customer at an off-the-beaten-path coffee shop, Hudson Market in Wading River, which opened in June 2016. And he used to spend a good part of the day chatting to owner Anthony Coates.
In October, when Coates told him he was selling, Accardi took the plunge. He spent the past few months transforming the small space into a coffee shop that also serves acai and dragon fruit bowls and, last week, Brekky (Australian slang for breakfast) opened for business.
Accardi gets his coffee from North Fork Roasting Co. in Southold, and serves both drip ($1.85 for small) and pulled espresso drinks ($2.50 for cappuccino). He also taps a keg of Deer Park’s Sailaway cold brew; nitro brew (cold brew with a beer-like head) is also available.
Acai bowls are topped with NoFo Crunch granola (from Mattituck), berries, coconut and honey; dragon fruit (aka pitaya) bowls are topped with granola, pineapple and mango. Small bowls are $5, regular are $7.50.
For now Brekky is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day but Wednesday; hours will extend for summer.
