Long Island’s first kosher barbecue battle will be waged on Sunday, June 10, at Temple Beth Torah in Westbury, and this is your official invitation to compete.
The event is modeled after and sanctioned by the ASBEE World Kosher BBQ Championship in Memphis, Tenn. Teams will compete in three culinary categories, brisket, beef ribs and beans, as well as for best booth and best team name.
Some of the names of the teams that have competed in Memphis include Grillin’ Tefillin, the Glattiators and Char COAL Nidre. Folks, if you’re a so-so barbecuer but a great punster, this may be your time to get grillin'.
Fairway Market is the lead sponsor, and proceeds will be donated to locally based hunger relief charities including Long Island Cares, the Interfaith Nutrition Network and Hatzilu. Take note: You don’t have to be kosher, or even Jewish, to compete.
