Chef Gerry Hayden, Beard Award semifinalist

Gerry Hayden of The North Fork Table & Inn in Southold, is a semifinalist in the 2011 James Beard Foundation Awards competition for best chef in the Northeast. It's the second consecutive year Hayden has been a semifinalist.

The five finalists for the award will be announced March 21. There are 20 semifinalists in the category. The finalists will be chosen by a panel of more than 550 judges nationwide. The awards ceremony is scheduled for May 9 at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. There are 19 chef and restaurant categories.

Hayden, whose New American restaurant earned a four-star rating in Newsday in 2008, previously cooked at Aureole and Amuse in Manhattan. He's the lone Long Island semifinalist in this year's JBF Awards. Last year, Guy Reuge of Mirabelle in Stony Brook also was a semifinalist.
