Azafran Colombian Restaurant joins the list of dining spots that have come and gone from a St. James strip-mall space that previously hosted Red Tomato, Attilio's Grill and, its longest occupant, Bella Vita City Grill.

Azafran, whose name means saffron in Spanish, opened about a year ago and, in September 2014, received a 1 1/2-star review.

Its strength was its rotisserie chicken, a beautifully burnished bird with an intriguing, almost Middle Eastern flavor. A shame that chicken was plated with pre-frozen fries. Tongue in Creole sauce and fried whole porgy were two other dishes the restaurant did well.
