Dance with lions for the Year of the Rabbit

The Year of the Rabbit gets hopping across Long Island on Feb. 3, with a wide variety of restaurants offering traditional lion dances along with special Chinese New Year menus. You'll find fish for prosperity, noodles for long life and much more at these establishments.

West East Bistro

WHERE: 758 S. Broadway, Hicksville, 516-939-6618, westeastbistro.com

WHAT: Lion dances come with your choice of an eight-course banquet menu or special a la carte menu. Seatings are at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 4; 6:15 and 8 p.m. Feb. 5; and 5:15 p.m. Feb. 6 - they promise to have you out in time for the Super Bowl - and the following weekend, at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 11; 6:15 and 8 p.m. Feb. 12. Reservations recommended.

COST: $33.88 per person, plus tax and tip.

The Orient

WHERE: 623 Hicksville Rd., Bethpage, 516-822-1010

WHAT: Ten-course New Year's banquet filled with "lucky dishes" - fish for plenty, noodles for long life. At 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4; noon, 6 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6; 7 p.m. Feb. 11; and noon, 6 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12. Reservations required.

COST: $35 per person, plus tax and tip 

Pearl East

WHAT: Lion dances and special Chinese New Year's menu for 7 p.m. Feb. 5 and Feb. 12. The selections include lobster with cognac sauce, poached sea bass with green tea sauce and more. Reservations required.

COST: $65 per person, plus tax and tip.

Peninsula

WHAT: Lion dances will be performed at 8 p.m. Feb. 4, Feb. 5 and Feb. 12, with a special Chinese New Year's menu that includes Peking duck. Nearly booked; reservations required.

COST: $57 per person plus tax and tip.

Tula Kitchen

WHAT: Lion dancers will perform with drummers at 8 p.m. Feb. 10. Diners will order from the regular menu, which has Mediterranean, American, vegetarian and vegan choices. Reservations recommended.

COST: Regular menu; no charge for entertainment.

Orchid

WHAT: Lion dances accompany prix fixe menus offered for three seatings: 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 4, and 6 to 8 p.m. and 8:30 to midnight Feb. 5. Festivities morph into dancing to a DJ for the second seating on Saturday night.

COST: $45 per person plus tax and tip for Friday; $55 plus tax and tip for the second Saturday seating

Sip City

WHAT: The Chinese New Year takes on a pan-Asian flair with a prix fixe menu that includes selections from China, Thailand, Singapore and more and includes two complimentary cocktails. This special menu is available Feb. 1-6. The Ian Petillo Trio, a jazz ensemble, will perform from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 4-6. Reservations recommended.

COST: $34.99 plus tax and tip
