Dee Dee’s Luncheonette, a relative newcomer to Floral Park, took first place in a chili contest held last Saturday at Belmont Park as part of a fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The winning chili is the work of the eatery's new executive chef consultant, Phil Iannuccilli, who worked at the former Maxxels and PastaVino in Mineola.
Iannuccilli, who came on board a few months ago, has done a makeover at the retro luncheonette, sharpening both its look and menu. Now, the place serves hot chocolate that's made with real chocolate ganache; baked goods are made from scratch.
You can also find pancakes, omelets and burgers all day, beer and wine at night. On the menu: Buttermilk pancakes ($7), country scramble with eggs, potatoes, vegetables and sausage ($10), bacon cheeseburger ($12), an “everything” Reuben with corned beef, turkey and pastrami ($11), chili cornbread mac and cheese ($13.75), a Greek salad ($7.95) and the award-winning chili ($4.75). An ice cream sandwich made with toasted pound cake, hot fudge and caramel is topped with freshly whipped cream ($7.50).
Hours are Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Dee Dee's Luncheonette is at 142 Tulip Ave., Floral Park, 516-216-5566.
